Pilot is a Newfoundland that has seen his fair share of health conditions since he was enrolled with Trupanion five years ago. He has dealt with skin conditions and a torn cruciate ligament, and more recently experienced a life-threatening condition called gastric torsion (more commonly known as bloat).
Gastric torsion is a condition that occurs mostly in larger dog breeds in which the stomach becomes twisted over itself. It usually happens if the dog has just consumed a large meal or water and is active immediately after. Pets must receive immediate veterinary attention and surgery in most cases, in order to survive.
